Sami's World

CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Last Beach Trip

on September 12, 2009

Well, we knew it had to come to an end sometime. Unfortunately I feel as though it came to an end sooner than it should have.

[Niah and Toby becoming sand monsters]

Our family enjoyed our very last beach day of the summer on Monday August 30. Molly and her three girls rode down with us to the beach. We had 6 families with us on the beach and in the water. Later the rest of the Naylor family showed up for the bon fire. It was a blast and a perfect way to end our summer fun.

[News Flash: Sand Monster seen on beach, beware!!]

But being Scott and Sami Thompson we had to go out with a bang. So after only being at the beach for an hour, Scott tries to get himself arrested……

[Jaime is in the purple bathing suit. Jessie is in red. The Dalrymples are the rest. The boat went a little farther and then stopped and fished. It was fun to watch them throw out their nets]

[Milo flying a kite]

Ok, I’m exaggerating a little bit……. So the particular beach we like to to go has this river. Grant it, it gets pretty gross toward the end of the summer season, but for the most part it’s just part of the beach. This summer however, kids had been digging a route from the river to the ocean. Maybe a distance of about 12 feet. One other time we were at the beach I went over and talked to somebody who had seen some kids dig out the trench. He said they only dug a couple foot wide trench, but over the course of the day and the pressure of the river, the trench became over 10 feet wide. Well, this particular day the trench had not been dug so I get this bright idea to try the theory this guy said worked.

[Cute Keri. She actually crawled out into the waves this time. She’d crawl out as fast as she could, then we’d call her back and she’d crawl back right in front of the wave. After about 5 times of this, she was too slow and the water actually got her. She was startled but wanted to go right back out and do it again]

So Scott and I and a couple of the kids get started. It didn’t take us too long and we reached the beach and the water was flowing slowly to the ocean. Just as we finished a park ranger drove down the beach headed right for us. We knew we were in trouble. So the guy stops. Lets us know that we aren’t allowed to do that. We say ok, gather our digging tools and go back to our group. Not 2 minutes later TWO more trucks with park rangers come up. They have on their uniforms with guns and note pad etc…. They go up to Scott and say ‘We believe you are part of a group trying to kill the steel head trout.’ Scott just looks at them dumbfounded. They proceed to question him and his motives for digging the trench. They asked for his drivers license, address, phone number…..they made him feel like a criminal. It was CRAZY!! They finally left and we all had a good laugh. Leave it to us to bring the park ranger coming to an innocent LDS party on the beach!! :0) By the way, not 2 hours later, there were a group of kids digging the trench…….

[Afton really enjoyed the waves this time too. But she had to be holding my hand. We had a good time together. The beach is such a magical place. I love it!]

[See Jaime through the smoke??]

The rest of the day/night went without incident. We had a great time. We played Kube, ate yummy food, marshmallows and just enjoyed the company of some really great friends. We left the beach at our usual 10:30pm hour and headed back over the hill for what might be the last beach trip of 2009. Sad, sad thought…..

[See Alix in the picture? This is a bit blurry, but if you look in the background you can see the amazing moon. It was so bright and big and it’s reflection off the water was almost as beautiful as the sunset.]

***Thanks Camille for the pictures. Life without a camera is really annoying. Thank goodness for wonderful friends!***
