Saturday night (August 22) Jaime continued to throw up a bit as did grandpa Thompson and Milo (again!! I’ll spare you the gory details, but it was an awful night!!). Scott was spared the throwing up but not diarrhea. By Sunday morning it was agreed that all Thompson’s were too sick to go to church. No point in continuing to spread the germs. Torry and Kevin hung out for most of the morning and the kids found that VERY cool.

About 11 grandma, grandpa, Allyson and Dean showed up. Torry, Kevin, Dean and Allyson said their goodbyes early so they could get to Oakland in enough time. I spent the rest of the day doing laundry….. load after load after load. Grandpa, Scott and Jaime slept most of the day. The rest of the children played with grandma and helped me with laundry. Keri seemed a little out of it most of the day but ate fine and I figured it was too many late nights, too many unfamiliar faces and not enough mom and dad time. Well, I was wrong on all counts. I put her down for her normal nap and about an hour later walked upstairs to go to our bedroom and it reeked of throw up. I quietly opened Keri’s door and yep, she had chucked. Grandma Thompson was a saint. She scrubbed the carpet (the only time through the whole sickness that anyone threw up on the carpet) and the bedding while I cleaned up Keri. Unfortunately Grandma and Grandpa had to leave by 4pm. They were so awesome and we were sad to see them go. But we knew the time had come and we said our goodbyes. I spent the rest of the day doing more laundry and clean up and taking care of the sick kiddos. Everyone got to bed on time and we were all grateful for such a wonderful weekend.
Monday we spent just hanging out. I put us all on a 72 hour hold. I did not let any of the kids leave the house (except to go in the back yard) for 72 hours after the last throw up. We were successful and by Wednesday my kids were acting like caged animals!! But we were germ free and ready to conquer the world.
Thursday August 27 we went swimming at my friend Laura’s house. About an hour into it I left my girls with her and took Milo and Keri to Oakland for Milo’s eye exam. They wanted a re check to make sure his eye pressure had decreased since the surgery. The eye doctor was VERY pleased with the decrease in pressure and said ‘I’m glad they finally did something’. But he is still VERY concerned about how unprotected Milo’s eyes are. Usually when Milo has a hard time keeping his eyes open when the doctor shines in the bright light, Dr. Salim will gently open Milo’s top eyelid. This time though he told Milo that he had to do it all by himself because if he touched Milo’s eyes they would probably pop out. Dr. Salim is still very disappointed that there hasn’t been a surgery to help fix his unprotected eyes, but can’t do anything about that except tell the team again that Milo needs his face surgery. I guess we shall see what comes of that. I need to get on the phone and raise a bit of a ruckus. I’ll keep you posted on that.
Friday August 28 we were suppose to get together with my friend Erika for a fun afternoon at the water park in Livermore. However, since school had already started there, the water park was not open till late afternoon and that no longer would work for Erika. So instead we drove out to Brentwood. It was a very nice afternoon. The kids swam and had fun in Erika’s backyard. Then Keri took a 3 hour nap. Then we loaded up in the van and went to a school fundraiser for Erika’s girls’ school. It was really fun and everyone had a great time. They had a nice Mexican dinner and some fun games for the kids. But as fun as it was, I was so glad it wasn’t for my kids. I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about school fundraisers. I LOVE homeschooling!! We got back to Erika’s about 8pm. We let the older kids swim while I packed up the car. We finally got out of there sometime after nine. I got home by 10 and put the kids to bed. I got to bed by midnight and was VERY tired.
Saturday was the day I went to visit my mom. Instead of the whole family going, just Jaime, Alix, Niah and I went. It was a great day. I was able to spend some quality alone time with Sara while we ran errands. Then some time with mom while Sara took the kids swimming. We got a lot done and we were glad we went. We left slightly later than I had planned (11pm) but had high hopes of being home by 1am. Except almost halfway home there was a fire and they closed the freeway. So I had to take another one that added about 20 more miles and almost 40 minutes of driving time. I was home about 2am. Got the kids and myself to bed quick!!
Sunday August 30 started too early after such a late night but we all got up and to church on time. We had a great service. A few of the talks really hit me and I was glad for the words that were spoken. After church we relaxed, did some family things together and headed to a friends house for dinner. I think because of our big family and our friends’ lack of space, we don’t get invited to other peoples’ houses for dinner often (at least I think that’s why…..). So this was a fun and special treat. We really enjoyed ourselves and were glad to get know the Eyre’s a bit more. We sure are glad they have moved here and they have added such a great spirit to our ward and to our lives personally.
Pictures will be sparse from here on out till we get a new camera. Our camera ate sand and refused to work. Until a new one can be acquired, pictures will be in short supply around here!!
OK, so we know you are a saint when you say this
“we were all grateful for such a wonderful weekend”
after telling us all about how much puking and pooping and laundry you had to deal with all weekend long! I would at least have to say it was a mixed bag!!
Glad you are all finally well– at least I hope it held!
