[Isn’t she beautiful? The flowers are from Grace Bennett and that BEAUTIFUL dress was made by my amazing friend Cathy Tryon]
Saturday August 22 was Alix’s baptism day. I was up and healthy by 6 am. I put the finishing touches on the things I could not do the night before and was feeling very confident about the day. Everyone else woke up feeling wonderful too. Steve was not too sure but was a GREAT faker (thanks bro!!). We made it to the church on time and got Alix and Scott dressed. We then took some photos. That was a fun time. Again, Thanks Steve for all your hard work and wonderful camera skills.
[The cousins weren’t so sure they wanted to do this. But they endured!]
[These three were so cute together!]
[Don’t they look GREAT together??]
[There is a picture of me with my mom on my baptism day in this same pose. I did this pose with Jaime too. It’s fun to look at my picture and my girls’ pictures.]
[Our family photo shoot did not go as we had planned…..]
[See, Keri thought it would be fun to play with Milo the whole time….]
[So getting everyone to look at the camera was a bit difficult. But we LOVE these pictures because they make us laugh and show our kids’ real personalities.]
The baptism went off beautifully! It was scheduled to start at 10am. Grandma Thompson and Auntie Torry did a wonderful job with the music. Jaime gave a very nice opening prayer. Auntie Allyson did a great job with the baptism talk. Alix only got dunked once! Sister Leitner (Alix’s primary teacher) did a fine job with the talk on the Holy Ghost. Alix recieved a WONDERFUL blessing from Scott (thank you to all the uncles and grandpa Thompson for standing in on that). Cousin Kenneth ended the meeting with a wonderful closing prayer. We all mingled for a few minutes and then cleaned up and were home by 11:15am.

[My amazing brother Steve! Thanks dude for all the great pics.]
After changing into more casual clothes we fired up the bbq and had a wonderful lunch of carne asada burritos (thanks grandma and grandpa Thompson!!).
[Uncle Kevin, Auntie Allyson and Uncle Dean. Thanks guys for coming. You made it so wonderful for Alix]
[Kenneth, Jaime, Alix and Uncle Kevin. Kevin was doing thumb war with both girls and winning both!]
Unfortunately, Torry was not able to enjoy carne burritos like the rest of us. The bug finally descended upon her. But she too was a trooper and in no way made it show in her actions or demeanor. What a saint!! By this time, my brother and his kids had to leave. It was a sad goodbye for I knew I would miss them greatly, but they had other family to visit and I knew I could not be selfish any longer. Thanks Steve for starting your vacation with us. We had a GREAT time and can’t wait to see you guys again.
[A’s or Tigers? It was REALLY fun to go to a game knowing that not all of us were rooting for the same team. It somehow made the game more exciting.]
[The other Tigers fan. I don’t know about those Tiger fans…..]
After the festivities, we put little ones down for naps (and some big ones too!) and had a relaxing few hours. I then made a quick trip to the grocery store for some snacks and got back just in time to load up in the van to go to a baseball game. See, Kevin and Torry are Tiger fans (HUGE Tiger fans) and the A’s and Tigers were playing that night in Oakland so we got tickets for everyone and went. Well, we left Afton and Keri home, they are much happier children that way.
[Part way through the game a guy handed Milo an official A’s baseball. You would have thought Milo died and went to heaven!! Unfortunately, everyone forgot their camera’s and so this is the only picture we have at the game, thanks Scott for having an iPhone]
Some of our relatives (I won’t mention names ok Dean?) were not too sure about getting in our van. It was so lovingly renamed “The peetree dish on four wheels” and “The Big Bacteria Breeding Bus”. (We really did appreciate the humor. It helped us all laugh through a potentially awful situation. Whenever I think about this night I still can’t help but crack up!!) So to help stop the spreading of germs I wiped down every plastic surface in the van with Lysol wipes and sprayed all the upholstery with Lysol spray. That seemed to do the trick and we all piled in the van. With only a few miles to go till we got to the stadium, Torry chucked again. That sent another roar of laughter and comments through the van. But Torry said she felt so much better after that and was on the downhill of the awful bug. Yay for her.
We got into the stadium with no problems. We all got our own green collectors car and found our seats (not too bad and pretty close too). We then got into game mode. We were talking and laughing and cheering and eating lots of junk food and just having a GREAT time. Then it happened…..grandma Thompson gets my attention (I was in the row behind her) and says ‘Jaime’s throwing up’. Yep, right there in the isle (she was sitting on row 1). However, it didn’t seem to phase people, they just walked right over it on their way to their seats or to get something to eat. I, however, was mortified! I frantically went to find someone or something to clean up the mess. That was not an easy task. Apparently throwing up is not a big deal to these people. Almost 15 minutes later, and with Torry’s help, someone showed up with a spray bottle and broom to clean up the mess…..(too many details??). :0) Poor Jaime. Aside from not feeling well, she was VERY embarrassed and couldn’t stop apologizing.
Since the game was almost over and it was ok with Jaime, we stayed till the end (good thing too, there was this SWEET play by the A’s at the very end that won them the game). Then we watched the after game fireworks. They were really good and I’m sure I would have enjoyed them more but Jaime started chucking again during the fireworks.
[This picture does not do the fireworks show justice but I think it gives you a good idea of the wonderful show we got to watch.]
The whole night really was a BLAST!! Even Jaime says she had a good time. She was most bummed about the candy she chucked (she had bought it with her own money) and her blanket that she chucked on, we weren’t sure if we could get it clean enough to use again. Fortunately, I managed to get it clean and looking as good as new. As for her left over candy…..we found it today (2 weeks later) and I gave it to her ‘Hey Jaime, look what I found’. She took one look at it and said ‘EWE! Anybody want this candy’. She still can’t bring herself to eat it. I don’t blame her. The thought of eating hot dogs right now still makes me a little nauseous.
All in all an absolutely wonderful day. And if you ask Alix how the day went she says ‘it was perfect’. That’s all anyone can ask for.
Congrats to Alix! Sounds like you had a fabulous baptism day.
And while I am at it… Happy Birthday Afton!! I can’t believe you are 3 years old and we’ve only seen you once! I hope you have a great day too.
