With August knocking on my door, I realized that summer was almost over. Due to Milo’s surgery our summer had become quite mundane. No adventures (well, less anyway), no traveling and for sure NO WATER. I have taken the girls swimming but Milo just sat in the car and played with a Leapster (thanks Roberta!!). Well that all changed on Friday July 21. Mandi (my best friend since 7th grade) called me in the late morning and declared her desire to come hang out at my house for a WHOLE WEEK starting Monday July 3. I was in shock, denial and on cloud nine. A friend actually coming to visit me, just me! And for no reason, just to have fun!! Well, the denial emotion overtook all the rest and I went about my daily life as if the phone call had not come.
Saturday August 1 we went to my moms house for a visit. We spent lots of time playing, cleaning and visiting. It was a very fun day. We tried to get most of the outdoor stuff done in the morning because it was going to be a HOT day in Fresno but we ended up going to her storage unit a little later and it was HOT. Jaime got sun stroke (I’m pretty sure) and within an hour she was not feeling well at all. We tried pumping her full of fluids for the rest of the day, but she was definitely sick! We did manage a small birthday celebration for both Jaime and Alix. That was fun. We accomplished all that needed to be done and left about 10:30pm. It was late but necessary. We returned home by 1am and put all the kids in bed. Scott and I still had lessons to prepare and finally crashed sometime around 2.
I had to go to ward council because everyone else in the primary presidency was gone, so I got up by 6:45am and was at the church by 7:30am. After the meeting I dashed upstairs and put the primary room in order and then ran home. Jaime AND Niah were claiming sick. So Scott and I decided to tag team it. Fortunately we were both able to fulfill our callings and the kids were able to be sick and miserable at home. Jaime and Niah spent the rest of the day on our bed watching movies and drinking fluids. Neither wanted to eat. But neither of them threw up or had fevers or anything, they just didn’t feel good. That’s when the call came….. Mandi called and said she’d see me tomorrow. TOMORROW??? No way. Then it happened. I started planning. LOTS OF PLANNING!! See, Mandi’s oldest boy Bradley had proclaimed that he didn’t want to go to California because there was nothing to do in California. I decided I needed to change his opinion on that and I planned the days so full there was no way he could get board, or anyone else for that matter! I also realized I had a lot of cleaning to do and shopping to do and and and But boy was I excited.
Monday was spent cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. In between that I made Niah and Jaime drink, drink, drink! Between the two of them they consumed over 2 gallons of fluids (I didn’t want ANY sickness to stand in the way of a fun week!). I had everyone in bed sleeping and everything ready when Mandi and her boys showed up at 10:30pm. I still couldn’t believe my luck. It was so good to see her and her boys and I was so happy to finally have an excuse to go have some fun!
Stay tuned for our fun adventures…….
