Not much to report on the last 2 weeks of life. A lot of mundane things, but things nonetheless. July 14,17 &18 I watched 3 boys for a friend. She was out of town all week and I watched the boys so her husband could go to work. I realized even more why I have mostly girls. Boys are just wired differently and boy was I tired at the end of the day. After my first day I was wiped out for two more days, just in time to watch them again. They were good boys. A joy to have around. Just more energy.
We had an Enrichment meeting July 15 that was themed County Fair. It was so fun. We had a jam tasting contest. The priesthood were the official judges. My apple butter won first prize. It was so fun and I’m glad that I learned that skill so many years ago (Thanks Jen!!!). We had corn dogs and lots of sides and desserts. We learned about pioneer history from some of the older women in the ward who had pioneer ancestors. Great stories! We socialized and just enjoyed ourselves. Good times!
We had a HUGE backyard clean up day on Saturday July 11. We removed all the bushes that were growing along our back fence. I wish I would have taken a before and after picture. But I didn’t. Anyone who has been here though will appreciate all the work we went through. We filled our green can twice, the neighbors green can once and one HUGE box of firewood. One of those jobs that you feel as though you really accomplished something when you were done. We were all hot and exhausted but it was a good hot and exhausted.
Alix had a primary party on Saturday July 18. She was so excited because her teacher works at Club Sport and they were having the party there. She was asked to bring anything she wanted to share with her classmates. Alix wanted to bring brownies and then asked if she could make goodie bags for everyone, afterall what’s a party without goodie bags to take home? So we pulled together a bunch of stuff we had here at home and put together some really nice bags. Alix also made some lemonade ice trays. She left at 10 and Sister Lietner said they should be home by 2. Alix came rolling in at 4:30 with the biggest smile I’ve seen on her in a long time. She had a great time and felt renewed and ready for what life had to throw at her!
Later that same day we went to a baptism. I love going to baptisms. It is always so nice to see people take upon them the name of Christ and be His servants. It was a great experience and I’m glad we could end our Saturday on such a spiritual note.
After the baptism and putting all the kids to bed Jaime and I went out once again to find church shoes for her. The week before one of her church shoes broke and so we needed new ones. I had figured she needed new ones because she was wearing size 2 church shoes, size 3 tennis shoes and size 4 1/2 when we would go bowling. Well we found her a new pair of tennis shoes pretty easy, but church shoes were going to be a bigger problem. See, I guess by the time they need size 4 1/2 they figure they are also old enough for 3 inch heels. Not this mom!! So the thrift store was a bust, Ross was a bust and so was Wal Mart. By then it was almost 11pm and so we went home. We figured she could wear one of my pairs of shoes just once. So Sunday morning we stuffed a bunch of toilet paper into the toes of a pair of my shoes and she was off. We finally went out this week and found her a pair she liked that fit her. Apparently Payless Shoe Source (which Jaime mistakenly was calling Shoeless Pay Source) has kids sizes that go up to size 6. That way you still get the “kid” look, but in the right sizes. I guess once they hit size 4 1/2 – 5 they convert to adult sizes. The church shoe crises is over in this house. But the amazing thing about the whole experience is that this was the first time in Jaime’s life that I had to buy her tennis shoes and church shoes. Up till now, every pair of shoes she has ever worn have been hand me downs or gifts. Shoes are EXPENSIVE!!
