We had a great fourth of July. We started out by eating a yummy breakfast with the neighbors (I’m going to start using their names, I promise!!). We had pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits, hashbrowns, strawberries, blue berries, and whipped cream. It was SUPER good!! Then we all loaded up and headed to the parade.
The annual Fourth of July parade was held on the major street right by our house so it was easy to attend. We did drive the back roads to get a little closer to the actual parade. I’m sure we could have ridden bikes or walked but we were running a little late and didn’t want to get stuck at the parade with no chairs (which I was not willing to carry two city blocks!).
The parade was AWESOME. We all really enjoyed each of the entries and the big blow up balloons floating in the sky and some of the dressed up characters.
When we watched the parade 5 years ago (the last time it was in the Warm Springs District) I don’t remember it being so good.
It still had the pirate entry, too bad. I complained about that entry 5 years ago. There’s this haunted house in town that is very popular and very scary. So they enter the fourth of July parade and put on a mini version of the haunted house. It just takes away from the symbolism and sacredness of the holiday. Not only that, but this year one of those scary, no good pirates thought it necessary to come up to Afton and run his long finger nails across her cheek. Had I been fast enough, he would have endured the wrath of this mother. I was appalled that he even did that. As we were walking back to the car Afton says:
‘That pirate tried to take me mommy’
‘I know honey. But he’s gone now’
‘If he had taken your Afton you would have been very sad’ as she sniffles that cute little sniffle
‘Yes baby, I would have been VERY sad’
Yep, the city will be getting yet another letter from me about how inappropriate that particular entry is in the Fourth of July parade.
After the parade we went home and relaxed a bit. Played some more with the neighbors and just enjoyed the nice day. Then we did some cooking and headed over to the Bennets for a bbq. They did a fabulous job and appreciated being invited over.
While Grandma Thompson was here last weekend, her and the kids made a Fourth of July pinata. We took it over to share with our friends.
Unfortunately not very many kids got a whack at it before it broke. Fortunately there was enough candy that the sadness of not hitting it was soon forgotten.
We left early and got the kids all in bed sleeping by 8pm. Scott worked on his Sunday school lesson and I went to bed early. It was the perfect night. We didn’t see any fireworks, but we heard a couple. I was ok with that and the kids didn’t seem to care. Easy low key day, the best kind of days!
