CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Final Milo News

on July 2, 2009

Well, we are home! It has been quite an ordeal but it is finally over. At least for now! When I went to see him today, he was about the same as he was when I left him. He perked up a bit after they gave him some medication though. But then he got a little down again. He didn’t want to do anything but sit there in the bed. Finally I told him we would get up and go potty and do a sponge bath and then go for a walk. He relented and went. While he was in the bathroom he had his first poo since the surgery. That made him feel tons better. Then we went for about a 5 minute walk in the hallway. We got back and got back in bed and he just looked so sullen. So I told him we were going to go out again. He didn’t want to but I told him we had to.

We went outside and played with his truck for about 30 minutes. Then we walked inside and found the cafeteria and sat in there for another 30 minutes. Then we went up to the playroom on the 5th floor and played there for about an hour. By the time we got back to the room they figured we had just gone home! :0)

When we got back, Milo drank more water and colored while I ordered his lunch and sped up his coming home status. By this time, Milo was his old self. He was smiling and joking and enjoying life. We went back down to the cafeteria and ate lunch together. I couldn’t eat in his “room” so we went together to the cafeteria so I could eat too. After that we went back upstairs and they said we could go home. I called Scott lickity split and he raced there as fast as he could. It took him about an hour. So Milo watched T.V. and I talked to the mom right beside me. As soon as Scott got there with Milo’s clothes we were gone in about 3 minutes.

As much as we appreciated all the nurses and doctors and all the wonderful things they did for us, we were glad to come home. Milo arrived home about 4:30pm. The girls surprised him with cards and they even dressed up for him. It was VERY nice. I’m glad he has older sisters who treat him with so much love (don’t get me wrong, we have had plenty of fights already since we’ve been home, but I have to treasure the good moments when we have them!!:0) We went for a little walk to the grassy park area behind our street and enjoyed the shade and cool air. Then we saw our neighbors and they gave Milo a great welcome home greeting. Then our great friends, the Hooks, brought us some dinner (In-n-Out, Thanks Guys!!). And now we are putting all the kids to bed and I think I will go to bed too.

Tomorrow we embark on the first day of Milo’s three weeks of no bathing. He can have sponge baths but it is VERY important that he not get either of his wounds wet. Infection would be a VERY bad thing. When we were telling the Hooks about that tonight, Milo piped in and said ‘When you see me I will be so dirty and incredibly muddy and just…..FILTHY!!’ We laughed so hard. I’m still laughing.

So Milo is back to his old self. Tormenting, laughing, making jokes and just an all around happy kid. We thought it would be at least another week before he would be back to himself. But not Milo, can’t keep a good man down!

WE LOVE YOU MILO!!
