[Dinner for a 1 year old…..yummy]
Monday June 15 was Keri’s birthday. She had a dr appointment at 9 am. She did really well. She weighs 21 ½ pounds and is 30 inches long. She is healthy and happy. She loves to “talk” and she does the army crawl like no ones business. She could out do an army man any day!! She sleeps well and eats well and is just so happy.
She is standing her ground against her older siblings and will one day give them a run for their money! She has been such a joy to have around this last year. She brings a smile to everyone’s face. What a wonderful addition she is and we count our many blessings everyday for having her.
[Gotta love the chocolate smile]
She did a great job destroying her cake but she did burn her finger on her candle instead of blowing it out. It was kinda funny actually…….
Also on Monday I called Milo’s doctor to find out if there was any news about his CT scan. According to the nurse no one had looked at it yet and so she told me she’d contact the doctor and call me back. So an hour later I get a call that Milo will have an MRI on Tuesday June 16. He’d have to be put out so that he could stay still enough and that meant NO FOOD. Unfortunately he grabbed a few Cheerios that morning and therefore could not do the MRI. Well, to make a VERY LONG story short, Milo may or may not have to have surgery. They found fluid on the brain and therefore want to put in a shunt. They just aren’t sure when. We are having a hard time re-scheduling the MRI to correspond to when the doctor wants to do the surgery. So it has been 12 days of unpleasant times around here. I spend the day not talking on the land line waiting for the doctors office to call just so that at the last minute they can change everything. I’ve been a bit too emotional about this and not thinking with a level head. Yesterday (June 24) I had a blessing and today (June 25) I went to the temple. Thank goodness for the chance to refuel a bit before I have to start again. I’m grateful for the Lord and know that He is mindful of me. I just wish I could listen to what He has to say and follow it! Milo is such a wonderful young man and we love him so much. He has gone through a lot of surgeries and tests and this is the first time that I have felt this uneasy about something the doctor has wanted to do. Fortunately for us, Grandma Thompson came to help out. She has been a blessing already and she has only been here for a day. The kids love her and there is an abundance of love from her to them. We are so blessed to have her.
On Wednesday June 17 our bowling season started. Apparently the local bowling alley here honors a bowling card that entitles every child to one free bowling game a day for the entire summer. This is the first time we’ve heard about it because they usually pass the cards out at school.
Well we are in a homeschooling group that got some cards and gave them to all the kids and the “teachers” (yep, I got one too!!). So we have gone bowling everyday (except Sunday) since then. Most days we’ll pick up a friend or two. It really is fun.
Let’s see, some of the fun stories of bowling. Afton has had numerous balls stall in the middle of the isle because they were too slow. Alix has nicked a ball from throwing it too hard. Niah just has her own style that I can’t explain. Milo has decided that he can throw a ball that is too heavy for him.
Jaime is getting really good but doesn’t show much emotion so I’m not sure if she is having fun or not. Keri hangs out in the stroller and claps between sucking on her toes (oh the life of a 1 year old!!). It takes a good 3 hours to do bowling.
By the time we are done with bowling we come home, have lunch, do naps and then start chores and dinner and playing outside with the neighbors. It’s been such a great summer so far.
The other day I asked Niah if she’d go upstairs and tell Jaime that I needed her. On her way to do her task Milo stops her and says ‘No, Niah, I’ll go, I can yell louder than you’. I was just cracking up!
Father’s day seemed to go well. Sunday June 21 was all about DAD! Jaime made a cool picture book for Scott at activity days. Alix made a picture frame out of branches and flowers. Milo made a picture frame out of branches. Niah and Afton made him some cards. From church he got some decorated ties and a root beer float. He then got a 4 hour father’s day nap. I think he had a great day and felt appreciated as a dad. We sure do love him and are glad that he’s our dad…..and we know he loves us too.
So I’ve had a lot of firsts this month. This was the first camping trip I was not pregnant or nursing. This was the first first birthday party I was not pregnant or nursing. This was the first dance recital for Jaime that I was not pregnant or nursing. It’s my first summer not being pregnant or nursing. And it was almost weird to be at the root beer float social and not be in labor (last year Keri was born on Father’s day and so during the root beer float social I was in labor).
I guess this brings me up to date. As things progress with Milo, I’ll post here. But as of now we are just waiting.
Sounds like you should have a “not-pregnant-or-nursing” celebration! If you wait til October, I’ll do it with you!! ( I am counting down the days until Drew turns one and I CUT HIM OFF!!)
