The kids love to draw and color (good thing too since we have enough crayons and coloring books to outfit every home in Fremont). Unfortunately, the also have a tendency to leave the crayons/markers out after they are done. This had happened one evening. I realized it after they were in bed and was going to have them clean up the mess in the morning. Before the culprits were able to clean up their mess, Keri found it. She had no idea what she was doing.
[see the marker on the ground?]
She went from the little table in the living room all the way to the kitchen (the long way). So, not only did they get to clean up the markers, they got to clean up the marker mess. But we all did have a good laugh, enough so that I got the camera out.
Another not so fun mess recently involved Vaseline. For anyone out there who has ever had a Vaseline mess, I’m sure you can sympathize. The kids were all up watching a movie. I guess Afton and Niah got bored of the movie and started putting on Vaseline. On their lips, in their hair on their arms and legs. But I guess that wasn’t good enough. They put it on our sheets, dresser, hallway wall their beds and anything else they came into contact with before I got up there to stop them. Didn’t take a picture of that one!
Jaime and Alix had collision the other night. Both came bolting out of their rooms at the same time and knocked right into each other. Jaime went flying and bumped her head on the corner of the wall in the hallway. She swelled instantly and bruised and turned purple.
It was pretty bad. There was even a little cut with blood coming out. She instantly starts screaming in pain (can you blame her?) and rushes to the mirror to see the damage. Her first words out of her mouth were ‘I’m going to look so ugly!!’
Not once did she worry about the fact that she just hit her head really hard, she was only worried about how she would look to others. Silly girl! She now has a pretty nice black eye that seems to be healing quite well.
[A week later. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like she is wearing a little bit of make up but it’s really a black eye. Scott says he can’t even tell. I think it’s very obvious.]
I just had my little artist decorate one of my white dining room chairs. Oh and herself and oddly her brother a little bit. And I’m doubtful Jaime could look ugly even if she tried really hard.
Jaime is growing up too fast, just like my little Sami did. By the time you were 10 you could have been a full time homemaker. Come to think of it, you were. But you were more concerned if your laundry was done right, or the house clean enough than if you were “pretty”. You were extremely attractive, but you hid it under baggy shirts and very long dresses. The time you tried on your first prom dresses was a tremendous challenge, none of them came in baggy sweatshirt material. I loved your natural sense of modesty and self respect. I never had to censure your clothing choices. In fact, I had to force you to buy new clothes. When you and Mandy put dark purple highlights in your very dark brown hair (the highlights were hardly noticeable) it was one of the only times you ever tried a real girlie or vain activity, and then you were called in for an evaluation for your BYU Application. You were so angry with yourself, I never had to say a word. Ahhhh, memories. That is what these wonderful experiences will be to you in another twenty years or so. I love you all so much. And Jaime, you never looked prettier.
jaime could never be ugly! but her comment reminded me of the brady bunch movie when marsha gets hit in the face with a football and says, “now i’ll never be a teen model!” hehe!
