We had the greatest time at a Family Dance on Saturday May 2. We opted to leave the 2 littlest at home since we weren’t going to get home till about 10pm. Before leaving we gave the kids a “speech” about proper dance edict. Since they had never been to one before. We reminded them to use their manners and to always say yes if someone asked them to dance. On the way to the dance we had a little apprehension from everyone about this dance thing but I ignored it. I knew everyone would have fun. We arrived at the church building and as Niah was getting out of the van she said ‘Ok mom, find me someone to marry.’ I informed her we were here to DANCE not to get married. After that was cleared up we went in and got our picture taken first, that way we would all still look nice.
Then we checked out the food table and grabbed a dance card. They made cards and for every dance that you danced with someone you put their name on the card and then entered it into a contest for prizes. It really got people dancing and it was fun. I LOVE to dance so I just went out and started moving. The others caught on real fast and even had FUN!
[You can see Milo, Scott and Jaime]
Niah was so funny, she kept asking me to find her a boy. I finally went up to a young man and said Niah would like to dance with him. They danced a whole song. Then she asked me to find her another one. So I did. This boy only lasted about 30 seconds and then he said ‘here, my friend will dance with you.’
Sam, the friend, danced with Niah for 3 dances. She was having so much fun. He finally went off and danced with other girls. Niah again asked me to find her another boy. There was a teenager standing right there, I said ‘I bet he’ll dance with you’, he shook his head yes and Niah looked up at him and said ‘mom, that is a big boy, I need a little boy.’ We all had a good laugh at that one. Niah gave up on me and started finding her own dance partners. We finally left the dance at 10pm. Everyone was exhausted, but it was super fun. What a great memory we have made.
[Sam even asked Jaime to dance. She was excited to get asked, although it was from a younger boy!!]
So THAT’s why Niah mentioned something about a dance when I spoke to her on the phone! How fun, I so miss you guys!
I don’t know how I missed this post. Too cute! What a great idea.
